Bidlea Ice Cream Farm

Bidlea Ice Cream Farm in Holmes Chapel

This is a quick blog entry for our visit to Bidlea Ice Cream Farm Dairy. The farm is in Twemlow, close to Holmes Chapel (near Crewe).

We also made a short video which I have linked below. Sometimes seeing is better than reading, especially when ice cream is involved! Although you can’t taste the ice cream, it’s as close as you can get!

We found Bidlea Ice Cream Farm a lovely place for a pit stop in the Holmes Chapel area. A perfect reason for a trip out to the Cheshire countryside.

It was a short 40-minute drive from our house in Eccles, Manchester. Just within the range of our electric Zoe on the day!

More about Bidlea Ice Cream Farm

The ice cream was fantastic. I understand it is homemade on the site from the dairy milk cows.

The portions were also very generous, we went for a double scoop but perhaps a single would have done. We did eat it all though, which either meant the ice cream was delicious or we are just greedy. Perhaps a bit of both.

The petting animals

When we visited they had some young calves near the car parking that you could go right up to. They were very tame and completely used to human interaction. Hayley got to feed them a little straw which she loved. They also had some chicken or hen runs, however, the chickens were all in their little houses (coups?) sheltering from the sun.

Wheelchair friendly

The farm site is both wheelchair and mobility scooter friendly with hard surfaces and level areas everywhere. Hayley’s scooter also had no problems on the grassed areas and I would not hesitate to take a wheelchair on the grass. We went in the summer so perhaps in the winter, I would stay off the grass!

Car parking

All the car parking was on a well levelled and compacted gravelled area so you should not take any unwelcome mud home with you.

Visiting Bidlea Ice Cream Farm with your dog

A lot of the other visitors bought their dogs and the shop sold dog-friendly ice cream. They were all well behaved and we never felt there was an issue.

We bought some of the dog ice creams to bring home and it made the 40 minute journey home in a cool bag without defrosting. Needless to say, Bailey, Buddy and Fudge dogs loved it!

We are happy to recommend the farm.
